Overview

Asam Pedas Pantai Selera Bonda, nestled along Jalan Telok Gong in Masjid Tanah, Melaka, captures the essence of traditional Malay coastal cuisine with an inviting atmosphere and a prime location facing the sea. This restaurant is a hidden gem for those who crave authentic flavors delivered with simplicity and heart.

The highlight here is undoubtedly the asam pedas dishes, showcasing a rich variety of fish such as stingray, mackerel, and catfish, all cooked to perfection in a tangy, spicy broth. Diners particularly praise the claypot asam pedas ikan kembung which blends depth of flavor with an appealing rustic presentation. The menu also features gulai specialties, grilled tilapia, and fried catfish with chili, each prepared in a way that honors the classic kampung style but with refined balance.

Located by the beach, the setting enhances the dining experience—a breezy, seaside warung with ample parking space invites families and groups to savor local dishes in comfort. The venue’s openness allows for a casual, relaxed vibe enhanced by the fresh ocean air, although some guests note the midday heat can be challenging during peak hours. For those looking to extend their stay, chalets nearby offer a cozy retreat, blending dining with a simple seaside getaway.

Patrons appreciate not only the food but the warm, attentive service that complements the authentic flavors. The free refills on drinks like sirap add a thoughtful touch to the experience. The extensive traditional menu appeals to both locals and visitors seeking to immerse themselves in Malay coastal gastronomy—from spicy sambal belacan to creamy masak lemak dishes and unique offerings like siput sedut.

Ideal for families, large groups, or anyone chasing a genuine taste of Melaka’s coastal culinary heritage, Asam Pedas Pantai Selera Bonda offers a flavorful journey through well-crafted, hearty dishes in a setting that reflects the region’s natural charm and warmth. It’s more than a meal—it’s a cultural experience by the sea.

All 'masak lemak'( local cuisine such as catfish, smoked beef, chicken) are very nice (not hot, creamy of santan), nice vibe , very clean, claypot asam pedas with 8-10 type of fishes and very reasonable price. Today, again I ordered "siput sedut" as the main lunch menu .

The glory of malay cuisines, menu with assorted fishes, meat , seafood cooked traditionally. Love the sambal belacan, siput sedut and masak lemak rebung. The spice tolerence was perfect for me. The challenge eating at this warung was the blazing heat during lunch time which affected your comfort and mood to enjoy your lunch. The warung was clean with well arranged tables and the food was neatly displayed. Their assam pedas menu is available on weekends only

There're many ready dishes for mix rice you may choose such as grilled fish, fish curry, fish in coconut milk, egg in coconut milk, mix tempe (sautéed fermented soy bean) vegetables, etc. But, you need to order for claypot asam pedas. We came here during lunch on sunday afternoon. It's already almost full sitting. Luckily , there're still big table that able to fit 10-12 people at the back of restaurant and the waiter helped us add another small table to fit 15 people. We had our rice for lunch with delicious asam pedas tetel (beef ligament), asam pedas telur mayong (fish egg), asam pedas tenggiri, grilled talapia, fried chilly catfish, smoke beef in coconut milk, duck's egg in coconut milk, brinjal chilly, sauté mushroom, sauté cabbage, spicy chicken, salted egg and fried saute tofu. The price is quite reasonable. You may visit this restaurant if you have opportunity be in this area i.e. not far from pengkalan balak beach. It's quite easy to drive here and there is free parking space.
